Yu Yongding is an Academician of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, and has been a Member of Advisory Committee of National Planning of the National Development and Reform Committee of the People's Republic of China since 2004. From 1998 to 2009, he was Director-General of the Institute of World Economics and Politics and served as President of the China Society of World Economy from 2003 to 2011. He has also served on the Monetary Policy Committee of the People's Bank of China, the Advisory Committee of Foreign Policy of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the People's Republic of China, and the Foreign Affairs Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference.
Dr. Yu has served at various international organizations as member or advisor. Among them are UN Commission of the Reform of the International Financial and Monetary System (Stiglitz Commission), UN Committee of Development Policy, Council on International Monetary Reform (Brookings), Council of Global Governance, World Economic Forum, Advisory Committee and Global Commission of the Institute for New Economic Thinking, Academie Hassan II des Sciences et Techniques, Royaume du Maroc, Advisory Committee of IMF Asian and Pacific Department.
Dr. Yu graduated from Beijing School of Science and Technology in 1969, received his MA in economics from the Graduate School of Chinese Academy of Social Sciences in 1983, and his PhD in economics from the University of Oxford in 1994.
